With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the horizon, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead.

The Olympic Games represent the pinnacle of sporting excellence, where dreams are realised, and legacies are forged. It is a time when the entire world comes together to celebrate. We, the members of the global wrestling community, are not merely spectators to this grand event; we are integral participants, woven into the fabric of the Olympic family.

The Olympic Games are not only a chance for our athletes to shine but also an opportunity for each of us to come together and reaffirm our commitment to the values of excellence, respect, and friendship. There is no better time than an Olympic year to remind us of the opportunities that being part of this global Olympic family provides us.

I encourage every one of you to embrace the Olympic spirit and its community wholeheartedly, and to seize this moment as an opportunity to make a lasting impact both on and off the mat. As always, thank you for your unwavering dedication to the sport of wrestling, and for your ongoing commitment to the ideals that unite us as members of the United World Wrestling family.

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

Get to know the IOC Young Leaders

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is making strides to engage youth the unique platform they have created for young athletes worldwide to showcase their leadership potential and drive positive change within the global sports community. Through the IOC Young Leaders programme, participants have the opportunity to develop and implement special projects that address key challenges and promote the values of Olympism.

As one of UWW’s aim’s is to engage young wrestlers worldwide, this programme can act as an inspiration. Click the link below to get to know the current athletes in the programme. Who knows? Potentially a young wrestler could be part of the next cohort.

WOMEN'S WRESTLING

Paris to celebrate full gender parity on the field of play

As we strive to further develop and promote women’s wrestling, it is wonderful to have the International Olympic Committee (IOC) committed to the same objectives. The IOC recently announced that the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris will be the first to be fully gender equal. It has taken hard work and perseverance, but together with the International Sports Federations, including United World Wrestling, the IOC will have a more gender-balanced sports programme and a more gender-balanced number of medal events.

ASSOCIATED STYLES

UWW Africa to host seminars for Pankration & Traditional Wrestling

UWW Africa, in partnership with the UWW Associated Styles office, is set to host a series of seminars aimed at advancing Associated Wrestling Styles across the African continent. The inaugural programme, focusing on Pankration and Traditional Wrestling, is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024. These seminars will prioritise the training of coaches and referees, fostering a continent-wide cadre of experts in technical development and high-level match officiating.

Furthermore, the organisation plans to align associated wrestling events with the UWW African Championships, beginning in 2025, ensuring continued growth and promotion of these disciplines throughout the region.

Arimex announced as a new global supplier

United World Wrestling and Arimex have signed a global supplier agreement in the category of nuts and dried fruits. Arimex will supply nuts and dried fruits for European and World Qualifying events, with the pinnacle of the 2024 season being its presence at the Wrestling House during Paris2024 Olympic Games. Guests of Wrestling House and wrestlers will have the pleasure of enjoying Arimex premium selection of nuts and dried fruits.
